Where Two or Three Are Gathered…

When 2 or 3 are gathered together in the name of Jesus Christ, He is in the midst. What if there are 4, 5 or more?

If there are 2 or 3 gathered the focus is on the topic at hand. Once the 4th person is introduced it can easily shift. One of the 4 is going to be off base, is going to be physically in the circle, however, their heart, mind and soul may be in another location. This can be easily seen.

Was Jesus referencing a specific situation and the 2 or 3 rule only applies to that specific situation?

Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother. But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established. And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican. Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them. ~ Matthew 18:15-20 KJB

Is this the only time the 2 oe 3 rule applies? Would it not apply when the subject at hand is dealing with most anything? Jesus states, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. That seems pretty clear and covers a lot of ground. This is in the middle of the context in which we are speaking.

When 2 or 3 are gathered and discussing matters of the heart, mind and soul the depth and breadth of the conversation is far deeper than adding more people. In some cases, the more the merrier is appropriate, this doesn’t seem to be one of the cases. Maybe it is for others, but expereience has shown that 2 or 3 is an extremely powerful base for Jesus Christ to work with.

Either the Scripture is the divine Word of God teaching us how to live and how to be a reflection of God, or it’s nothing more than a historical account of events.
