Here Now, Ye Rebels…

Giving Thanks, honor and glory to the Lord, our God, is not asking too much, is it? To simply remember the things that happen from the hands of this vessel, we do not do. Our Father, Our God, the Great I Am causes them to happen and we are to remember and give Him the praise, the honor and the glory for such abundance, for joy and for life itself. When we don’t give the Lord, through the name of Jesus Christ, the praise and we begin to think we are actually in charge and making something happen, well… this is when our life strays from goodness to sin; from abundance to scarcity; from joy to sorrow.

And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth. ~ Genesis 11:4 KJB

Creating something in our name is a dangerous game. We see what happened when the people built the Tower of Babel. The Lord scattered them about and changed their language so they could no longer communicate with one another. Their family was dispersed throughout the whole of the earth. Not the result they had in mind.

We see yet another warning from God when the people of Israel confront both Moses and Aaron while they are moving towards the promised land. This next action, by God, shows the depths of our situation when we challenge God, act as though God owns us something and do not give Him the glory, the honor and praise that rightly belongs to Him.

And there was no water for the congregation: and they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron. ~ Numbers 20:2 KJB
And why have ye brought up the congregation of the LORD into this wilderness, that we and our cattle should die there? And wherefore have ye made us to come up out of Egypt, to bring us in unto this evil place? it is no place of seed, or of figs, or of vines, or of pomegranates; neither is there any water to drink. ~ Numbers 20:4-5 KJB

The Israelites, once again, press Moses and Aaron and show the depths of their anger and, more importantly, the depths of their ingratitude. “What have you done for me today?” seems to be their posture. Never mind that God has used Moses and Aaron to lead them from bondage, from slavery and led them back to a place where they could worship God… they want figs.

And Moses and Aaron gathered the congregation together before the rock, and he said unto them, Hear now, ye rebels; must we fetch you water out of this rock? ~ Numbers 20:10 KJB

Moses seems to have forgotten that it was God who made the water come forth out of the rock. This is the exact same command as the descendants of Noah called out when discussing the Tower. It is not for God, from God and to Honor God. No. It was man that made it happen.

As we go through our day do we glorify God for the gifts that He rains down on our lives? Do we give God the praise that He has earned for all that He does in our lives every moment of every day? Do we pray without ceasing? Do we stop, just for a second, lift our head and lift our hands to Him? Maybe if we did these things a lot more often our lives would be a different place.

Either the Scripture is the divine Word of God teaching us how to live and how to be a reflection of God, or it’s nothing more than a historical account of events.
