You Shall Find Rest Unto Your Souls…

When we are seeking God’s will should we look at our whole life, a specific timeframe or just for today? How do we know what God’s will is for us? Does God make it complicated for us to follow His will or does God make His yoke easy and light?

And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers. And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. ~ Matthew 4:19-20 KJB

Well, all of the above questions were just answered right there at the end of the last question.

We tend to overcomplicate every aspect of our life instead of applying Occam’s razor – the simplest of competing theories be preferred to the more complex – especially when it comes to matters of Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit and our Father, God.

But seek you first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the tomorrow: for the tomorrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof. ~ Matthew 6:33-34 KJB

In order to know what God’s will for our life, which comes back to today and today only, is to follow Jesus. When we follow Jesus Christ in our daily life we are, in fact, doing God’s will in our life. Jesus said to take no more thought than was necessary for today as today has enough for us to handle.

A little further along in the teachings Jesus explained that His yoke was light and we should put on His yoke in order for our lives to be tethered to His. When a farmer places a yoke on two ox the farmer always has an older, more experienced ox yoked to a younger ox in order for the more experienced to teach the inexperienced. Maybe we should try that in our lives and see what happens.

Take My yoke upon you, and learn of Me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and you shall find rest unto your souls. For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light. ~ Matthew 11:29-30 KJB

Why do we think it has to be complicated? When do begin to see God as our friend, our Savior and our King who loves us and wants us to succeed? When do we begin to act like our God, in the name of Jesus Christ, only wants what is best for us and sometimes, while we don’t understand, we should accept, on faith, what is written.

I believe Jesus Christ speaks directly to us. I believe Jesus Christ speaks to us through other people, actions and situations that are placed in our path to teach us something. There is too much evidence in my own personal experience to believe anything else. When man listens, God speaks. When man obeys, God works. It’s not complicated.

Either the Scripture is the divine Word of God teaching us how to live and how to be a reflection of God, or it’s nothing more than a historical account of events.
