A Man Is Brought To A Piece Of Bread…

Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery: but I say unto you, That whosoever looks on a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart. ~ Matthew 5:27-28 KJB

When a person goes through the 12 Steps, with someone who has gone before, they learn very quickly steps 4 through 9 are where the rubber-meets-the-road. The first 3 steps we are humbling ourselves before God, accepting God and acknowledging God has all the Power over our lives and we are nothing without Him. Without the Breath of God, we have no life.

Step 4 is where we repent of our sins. It is presented in a way that appears to show others have done us wrong, but by the end we learn that it was us all along doing the harm. We learn how the Holy Spirit guides a person’s heart and mind to discover and rediscover pains from the past our mind has shut down. The 4th step is a real eye opener and it’s the place where most people fail. They have heard it’s difficult, it hurts it’s this or it’s that. Yes, it is all of these things and a lot more. It is also the place where we meet God. It is the place where our life is transformed into who God wants us to be – His child.

For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light;
And reproofs of instruction are the way of life: ~ Proverbs 6:23 KJB

While all of this is going on our sex inventory becomes part of what we examine as well. This is where people get really uncomfortable. Even the mention of the words “sex inventory” makes people look at you sideways. Well, if a person is prone to committing adultery in their heart or be led by a harlot that destroys their life it may be important to take a look at this aspect of ones’ life.

To keep you from the evil woman,
From the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman.
Lust not after her beauty in your heart;
Neither let her take you with her eyelids.
For by means of a whorish woman a man is brought to a piece of bread:
And the adulteress will hunt for the precious life. ~ Proverbs 6:24-26 KJB

In a day when promiscuity is the norm, when both men and women allow lust to run their lives, taking a look at the impact of our sexual relations would be a major part of our repentance. Proverb 6, along with the teachings of Jesus Christ and the Disciples, make it clear as to why a person would need to come clean about their sexual misconduct. It does great harm in our relationship with God and God’s children.

We can not wipe away the stain of our actions, only the forgiveness of Jesus Christ can make us clean. While Proverb 6 was written long before Jesus Christ came to us, it is a foretelling of what is to come.

But whoso committs adultery with a woman lacks understanding:
He that does it destroys his own soul. ~ Proverbs 6:32 KJB

Either the Scripture is the divine Word of God teaching us how to live and how to be a reflection of God, or it’s nothing more than a historical account of events.
