Kanye West published a series of tweets Friday criticizing contemporary culture’s reaction to his own emotional response that played out publicly in recent weeks, discussing his own experiences with abortion.

“I cried at the thought of aborting my first born and everyone was so concerned about me… I’m concerned for the world that feels you shouldn’t cry about this subject,” West tweeted Friday morning.

The post was followed-up a few hours later pointing out the millions of black lives lost to the devastating procedure over the last five decades.

“Over 22,500,000 black babies have been aborted over the past 50 years,” West wrote. While abortion is a leading killer of black lives today, where West retrieved the 22,500,000 number is unknown. According to data from the Centers for Disease Control, abortion kills roughly 250,000 black children a year, multiplied out to 47 years since the Supreme Court decision in Roe vs. Wade, and that equals about 11,750,000 black children lost to abortion annually, though abortion rates have declined in recent years.

In another, West published a link to a New York Post story reporting on Planned Parenthood’s decision to sever ties with its eugenicist founder Margaret Sanger.

West’s series of tweets come just weeks after a bizarre presidential kick-off rally in South Carolina where the singer spoke publicly for the first time about his family’s decision not abort his daughter, which the American rapper had been at time advocating to his wife.

“I almost killed my daughter! I almost killed my daughter!” West repeated through tears. “I called my wife and she said, ‘We’re gonna have this baby.’ I said we’re gonna have this child … So even if my wife were to divorce me after this speech, she brought North into the world when I didn’t want to. She stood up and she protected that child.”
