A Cup Of Water To Drink…

A Cup Of Water To Drink…

How often do we serve others with a heart of gratitude? How many of us get the opportunity to build a kitchen, in the middle of the forest with no running water, no electricity and none of the modern conveniences?

Building a kitchen, literally, from the ground up, which will prove to be the only large scale kitchen to serve approximately 700 people a day for three days, is a task that is not for the faint of heart. Gathering wood, water and cooking instruments will change your life forever.

Serving the Lord can take on a great many forms. Something as simple as running a slide show of lyrics for the worship at church. While it sounds simple it can be a real challenge, especially if you don’t know the song and how it flows. Being a greeter at church, parking lot attendant and the list goes on. All of these seemingly small task, just like our regular profession, if performed in service of the Lord becomes another form of worship. What about washing dishes after a meal, sweeping the floor or doing laundry? Absolutely. If we are in a constant posture of worship then we are serving God’s children. We are performing a task for others.

There they made Him a supper; and Martha served ~ John 12:2a KJB

Jesus Christ taught the Apostle Paul the importance of our mind being in the right place. Jesus teaches us that we commit adultery when we think about having sex with another person outside of our marriage. That we commit murder through gossip – character assassination. These acts are committed in our mind, not our hands. So, if our mind is set on serving Jesus Christ then we are serving Jesus Christ. We are acting in worship and honor of Him. We are doing His bidding when we are serving others in His honor no matter how small the task.

Now John answered Him, saying, “Teacher, we saw someone who does not follow us casting out demons in Your name, and we forbade him because he does not follow us.”
But Jesus said,Do not forbid him, for no one who works a miracle in My name can soon afterward speak evil of Me. For he who is not against us is on our side. For whoever gives you a cup of water to drink in My name, because you belong to Christ, assuredly, I say to you, he will by no means lose his reward. ~ Mark 9:38-41 NKJB

We can serve with every step, with every breath and with every small task we perform. We can be in a posture of service to our Lord and Master, Jesus Christ, with every word uttered and leaf that is raked. We don’t have to perform some grand gesture, we just need to seek Him first, ask, first, His guidance and knock, first, upon the door of His wisdom.

Either the Scripture is the divine Word of God teaching us how to live and how to be a reflection of God, or it’s nothing more than a historical account of events.
