That Which Is Good I Find Not…

That Which Is Good I Find Not…

The sin that lives in my members is always there. It never sleeps and some days it grows to the point of be in charge long enough to make manifest that which is hated. I do that which I hate and don’t do that which I love.

For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not. For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do. ~ Romans 7:18-19 KJB

The good news it is not all days. The bad news is it is some days and those are the worst. The rot that rolls through a persons veins feels like what sewage smells like. When it continues to happen the smell grows deeper and deeper. The people in our lives begin to sense something has changed. It is addictive behavior coming into view, is there a problem with their marriage or is it something else? The questions within others begin mounting and the sinner knows it.

The struggle of some addictions has a grip on our lives that are little known by others. The addictive behavior is beyond the reach of most and the ministry is struggling to catch up. Empty words do not crush the sin. Empty words do not shower the persons life in the merciful blood of Jesus Christ.

Now if I do what I will not to do, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me. ~ Romans 7:20 NKJB

As much as the love of Jesus Christ dwells in believers the law of sin dwells there, too. As much as a believer turns towards Jesus Christ the members of the vessel are not only touched by the Holy Spirit and baptized into the name of Jesus Christ, but the members of the vessel are held captive by law of sin.

I find then a law, that evil is present with me, the one who wills to do good. For I delight in the law of God according to the inward man. But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. ~ Romans 7:21-23 NKJB

When sin makes up a are laid bare before us as our transgressions never leave us, the weight is sometimes a larger burden than our strength can muster. It is only through mercy that we can be saved. The grace of Jesus Christ, as we repent of our sins, fills our heart and renews our mind. It is grace that leads us, it is mercy that frees us and it is the Sword of the Spirit which pierces our heart places our feet on solid rock.

O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? I thank God—through Jesus Christ our Lord!
So then, with the mind I myself serve the law of God, but with the flesh the law of sin. ~ Romans 7:24-25 NKJB

Father God, redeem my heart, lift my soul. Remove this sin from me, rebuke these thoughts, these words, images and phrases that are not from You. Rebuke them all, now, in the name of Jesus Christ. Strengthen me, Father God in the name of Jesus Christ, to turn towards You and leave sin standing in the corner to wither and die. Strengthen me, Father God in the name of Jesus Christ, to cry out, to be humble enough to drop to my knees and beg renewal of my mind that it may be transformed by the Love of Jesus Christ to stand firm against the prevailing storm and never turn my eye away from the The Light that is Jesus Christ.

Either the Scripture is the divine Word of God teaching us how to live and how to be a reflection of God, or it’s nothing more than a historical account of events.
