Understanding Will Keep You…

We are sinners. We are told, in the Holy Bible, we are sinners. We are told this again and again. Why are we constantly reminded of who and what we are? After being a person in the flesh for sixty years it is clear that sin is a big part of everyday life. It is difficult to live more than a few minutes, or a few hours, without separating from God, at least for a moment.

This brings us to the purpose of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and the 12 Steps. The 12 Steps purpose is to lead us to Jesus Christ and the Holy Bible. It is a “soft-sell” of God. People that are in active addiction, for the most part, don’t really care about God, and they certainly don’t care about getting close to Him. The 12 Steps creates a path to ease them into the Kingdom without them understanding too much of what is happening. it’s the opposite of the Saul-to-Paul way of meeting Jesus Christ.

The Truth, the Way and the Life can no longer be denied once we arrive at repentance. Repentance is the stumbling block for 99% of all sinners. Jesus Christ is part of our lives wether we like it or not. This is where the hardcore sinner chooses darkness, departs and remains in the wilderness for a while longer.

After repenting of our unrighteous ways, we become transformed. Our “worship basket” has been cleared and there is now room for God in our life. The items that previously kept us in everlasting darkness have now been removed and the Light of the Lord can shine brightly through His child.

When wisdom enters your heart,
And knowledge is pleasant to your soul,
Discretion will preserve you;
Understanding will keep you,
To deliver you from the way of evil,
From the man who speaks perverse things,
From those who leave the paths of uprightness
To walk in the ways of darkness;
Who rejoice in doing evil,
And delight in the perversity of the wicked; ~ Proverbs 2:10-14 NKJB

We now have the opportunity to share the Gospel, discuss what Jesus Christ has done in our lives. The deeper we go, the louder we get. The deeper the dive into the Living Waters of Jesus Christ all the more of His children are able to drink deeply of the overflow from the cup God has provided. We can see the perverse and know we have a choice – God’s will or free will.

To deliver you from the immoral woman,
From the seductress who flatters with her words,
Who forsakes the companion of her youth,
And forgets the covenant of her God.
For her house leads down to death,
And her paths to the dead;
None who go to her return,
Nor do they regain the paths of life— ~ Proverbs 2:16-19 NKJB

This begs the question – is “relapse” really part of the program or do we simply learn to be a better liar? If we continue to go back to “her house” again and again, what are we learning? We are learning how to be a better liar and a learning ways to get our lives straight, our heart aligned with the will of God and transform our mind to be bound to the Mind of Christ.

Either the Scripture is the divine Word of God teaching us how to live and how to be a reflection of God, or it’s nothing more than a historical account of events.
