At Thy Word I Will Let Down The Net…

Sometimes we see things that never existed. Sometimes we hear things that were never spoken. We must search our hearts to find the Truth. We must seek the Kingdom of God, first, to have the path of Truth cleared for us to see.

Then He got into one of the boats, which was Simon’s, and asked him to put out a little from the land. And He sat down and taught the multitudes from the boat. ~ Luke 5:3 NKJB

The people were separated from Jesus to the point of having an obstacle between themselves and Jesus. While Jesus was speaking was He teaching? There is no record of what was said, merely that Jesus was speaking to a “multitude” of people while they were on land He was in a boat off shore.

What do we see in this? What is Jesus teaching us about His speaking with others? Our heart needs to be in the right place, our identity needs to be found in Christ, and none other, and our breath needs not be ours, but His.

It is when we look at ourselves, the situation surrounding us and the path we are traveling that our vision begins to clear. Through repentance, grace and mercy our Savior blesses our lives in cleansing, baptismal waters. As we fearlessly search through our moral inventory we can weed out those items keeping us on land while Jesus is in a boat. We can get in the boat and dive deep into the Living Waters that free us from bondage. Our eyes see what is before us instead of illusions. Our ears are open to hear the Word of God instead of noise of this world. The Truth, the Way snd the Life begins to be revealed as our God is sought first.

Now when He had left speaking, He said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught. And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net. ~ Luke 5:4-5 KJB

It is only when we obey Jesus, take His hand and dive deep into the dark waters that our chains loose and fall to the floor. We are no longer slaves to this world.

Either the Scripture is the divine Word of God teaching us how to live and how to be a reflection of God, or it’s nothing more than a historical account of events.
