Shoes I Am Not Worthy To Bear…

As we come into the world, and as we have discussed most people are lost since they know not where they came from, it makes growing up even more of a challenge. Since we have no idea where we came from we have no idea where we are going. Jesus, Immanuel the Christ, did not have this issue. Forty-two generations of heritage, named by God through “an angel of the Lord” (Jesus) and then comes John the Baptist.

We rarely have someone going before us to announce our arrival. Most people, even great leaders, don’t have someone announcing their arrival. The King of kings was proceeded by John the Baptist to make the way straight.

I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire: whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire. ~ Matthew 3:11-12 KJB

John the Baptist teaches us about repentance and being baptized in water in the name of Jesus Christ. We will become as children of the Lord. We will be born again, of the Spirit, and all that is useless will be burned away. The fire within will Light the darkness and we will repent for the Kingdom of heaven is at hand. Our God, our Savior has come to heal our heart, heal our soul and remake us in His image.

We are to become as Jesus Christ, the Son of God. We are to be baptized in His name and we are to turn our will and our lives over to His care. We are to take His identity and throw off the chains of our addiction, our sin, our old self. We are to be a child of God.

And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: and lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. ~ Matthew 3:16-17 KJB

The heavens open, the Son of God speaks and we are brought into the house of the Lord. We are His and He is ours. Our identity is now in Jesus Christ and not of this world. We are no longer of this world, we are Ambassadors of the Kingdom and as such we represent Jesus Christ.

Either the Scripture is the divine Word of God teaching us how to live and how to be a reflection of God, or it’s nothing more than a historical account of events.
