He Touched Their Eyes…

He Touched Their Eyes…

Do we see with our eyes, with our mind or with our heart? When we look upon an object how do we see it, what are we actually looking at? How are we to see a narrow path when the clutter of the day is scattered about with distractions drawing our eye hither-and-yon?

There are a couple of accounts discussing how Peter was walking on water to reach Jesus. His vision was clear, Peter was focused on Jesus, the path was narrow and what he could see drew him further and further away from the boat into the deep waters. When Peter looked away from Jesus, for a split second, he dropped like a stone below the surface. He was blinded and could no longer see. Jesus knew this was going to happen and pulled Peter back into the boat without hesitation.

When Jesus began His ministry one of the first miracles He performed was with two blind men. They requested mercy from the “Son of David” and Jesus blessed them. Their eyes were opened.

Jesus ask the men if they believed He could show them mercy, they agreed that Jesus could, in fact, do this.

As Jesus went on from there, two blind men followed Him, crying out, “Have mercy on us, Son of David!” When He entered the house, the blind men came up to Him, and Jesus said to them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” They said to Him, “Yes, Lord.” Then He touched their eyes, saying, “It shall be done to you according to your faith.” And their eyes were opened. And Jesus sternly warned them: “See that no one knows about this!” But they went out and spread the news about Him throughout all that land. ~ Matthew 9:27-31 NASB95

If we simply read the words spoken by the men and by Jesus Christ we find a lack of discussion of blindness being “cured”. What we find is mercy being granted and eyes being opened. What those eyes now see is not mentioned. Do those eyes see the same as a person with 20/20 vision? Is this the same type of “eye opening” that is intended? It doesn’t read that way.

Help us to see the Kingdom of God. Help us to see Jesus Christ in every person we encounter. Help us to see God’s beauty in every situation. Help us to see what You, our Lord and Savior, want us to see. Open our eyes to Living Waters, to the True Vine and the Word of God. Help us to open our eyes and see with our heart, see with our faith and see with the Mind of Christ.

Either the Scripture is the divine Word of God teaching us how to live and how to be a reflection of God, or it’s nothing more than a historical account of events.
