The updated and expanded 20th anniversary edition book, Empowered By Praise: Experiencing God’s Presence and Power When You Give Him Glory, written by bestselling author Dr. Michael Youssef, is set for release on Sept. 7, 2021.
In his book, Youssef provides new insights on ways to give praise to God that will result in personal growth and spiritual transformation. However, Youssef warns his readers that to truly praise God, they must be willing and ready to invite intimate change.
“If praise were easy, we would all be glorifying God throughout each day, and we would all be changed people as a result,” Youssef says. “In fact, that truth helps explain why praise is so difficult: Praise demands that we make changes in our lives.”

This change is what Dr. Youssef identifies as humanity’s holdup with praising God in the manner He deserves. “It’s easier to try to avoid the challenges that come with change—even when that change is guaranteed to improve the quality of our lives.”
Dr. Youssef goes into detail about the many ways that praise might change the heart of someone worshipping God. Worship, Youssef argues, shifts humanity’s attitude, energy levels, personal relationships, spiritual perceptions and desires.
While praise changes so many aspects of worshippers’ lives, Youssef is quick to remind his readers that the objective of praise is not personal gain. “The purpose of praise is not to get something from God. Rather, it is to put ourselves in a position to see God for who He is. We worship God not so much to do something for Him, although He does desire our praise, but to affirm His lordship over our lives.”

Youssef was born in Egypt and lived in Lebanon and Australia before coming to the United States and fulfilling a childhood dream of becoming an American citizen. He holds degrees from Moore College in Sydney, Australia, and Fuller Theological Seminary in California, with a Ph.D. in social anthropology from Emory University. He founded The Church of The Apostles, which was the launching pad for Leading The Way’s international ministry. Dr. Youssef has authored more than 50 books, including popular titles like Saving Christianity? and Hope for This Present Crisis.
