From The Moment of Birth…

From the first breath, from the moment of birth and from the beginning of time man and woman have received their identity from God. Why do we not know this? Why do we not accept this today?

Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. God blessed them; and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” ~Genesis 1:26-28 NASB95

God made us in His image. The word “image” in the Greek translation means

eikṓn (from 1503 /eíkō, “be like”) [pronounced ikon] – properly, “mirror-like representation,” referring to what is very close in resemblance (like a “high-definition” projection, as defined by the context). Source

If we are a “mirror-like representation,” “as defined by the context” of God shouldn’t we act like it? Shouldn’t we live our lives as though we represent God Himself? Shouldn’t we clear our mind, soften our heart and make way for the King of kings with ever step, with every breath and with every word uttered from our mouth and every thought that runs through our head? Why do we live our lives in some sort of lie that dishonors God, the image from which we are made? The God who claims us as Himself?

Our identity coming from God is confirmed in the Gospels as the prophesies are fulfilled, by God, when Jesus is Baptized in the Spirit by John. God identifies His Son, our Savior, at the moment Jesus Christ is born again of the Spirit.

Now when all the people were baptized, Jesus was also baptized, and while He was praying, heaven was opened, and the Holy Spirit descended upon Him in bodily form like a dove, and a voice came out of heaven, “You are My beloved Son, in You I am well-pleased.” ~Luke 3:21-22 NASB95

We believe this may be the single biggest gaff in our being – loss of identity. If a person doesn’t know who they are in Christ how can they ever function at a high level? How can they ever function at any level that holds meaning? Why would a person ever achieve a higher standard for themselves when they operate, strictly, in the lower function of the brain?

Please keep in mind, which is a very important aspect, that Jesus, Simon and Saul were all named by God in community. Meaning, there were several other people around when God named them. Gideon, the might man of valor, is one of few people, that teach us about our identity, that is alone with God. We should receive our Christ identity in community, meaning there should be several, more than 2, people close by that can hear and understand what is happening.

Either the Gospel is the divine Word of God teaching us how to live and how to be a reflection of Him, or it’s nothing more than a historical account of events.
