Sick, Blind, Lame…Learning Trust

For 25+ years walking around dead inside – sick, blind and lame. If you’re familiar with the TV show The Walking Dead, well, how many of us are a “walker”? How many of us are laying by the Sheep Gate, frozen in fear, shame and guilt? What is the difference between the two?

The biggest difference is one smells really bad – which one smells really bad is up to the individual coming in contact with themselves to decide. Being dead inside is no different than being dead. Living a life frozen with fear, shame and guilt is equal to living a life as the walking dead. The outside is functioning, but there is nothing inside of any value.

One man was there who had been disabled for thirty-eight years. When Jesus saw him lying there and realized he had already been there a long time, he said to him, “Do you want to get well?”
“Sir, the disabled man answered, “I have no one to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up, but while I’m coming, someone goes down ahead of me.”
Get up,” Jesus told him, “pick up your mat and walk.” Instantly the man got well, picked up his mat, and started to walk.
Now that day was the Sabbath, and so the Jews said to the man who had been healed, “This is the Sabbath. The law prohibits you from picking up your mat.” ~John 5:5-10 NKJB

Never-mind the fact, the once blind, sick and lame man has just placed 100% of his trust in Jesus Christ and is now healed, we should be more concerned with what day of the month it is!

Thirty-eight years he laid in place blaming others for his plight. Thirty-eight years he was drunk with fear. Thirty-eight years he was burdened with shame. Thirty-eight years his guilt kept from seeking the Healer.

It only took 25+ years for some of us. 25 years of blame, shame, guilt and fear – always someone else’s fault for the problems wrecking someone’s life.

If one takes inventory to find the root cause of their inflated ego puffing up a low esteem, odds are, one will find a life just outside the Healing Waters, the Living Waters, that allows fear to continue driving the bus. That fear is standing on a foundation of mistrust and pain all hiding behind a mask made of false pride.

As soon as a person trust Jesus Christ with their whole heart, their whole body and their whole spirit they will instantaneously be filled with the Holy Spirit who shows up, Heals the wounds and walks the captive into the freedom of Living Water.

Either the Gospel is the divine Word of God teaching us how to live and how to be a reflection of Him, or it’s nothing more than a historical account of events.
