Ignoring The Crowd…

The past 11 years the news has been a driving force in everyday life. Operating a news website means keeping a finger on the pulse of what is happening. Being in the mix all the time. Watching patterns, watching cycles and reporting on the days events. If you’ve not tried to study news, research news, analyze news and report news it becomes an all consuming effort. After 11 years of looking into the abyss the abyss has begun looking back.

Beginning in March 2021 we began fasting news. Stopped reporting, stopped reading, stopped analyzing, stopped researching. All of this activity was replaced with prayer, quiet time and studying the Holy Bible. This was followed by a one day fast without an agenda – simply focusing on Jesus Christ.

Moreover, when you fast, do not be like the hypocrites, with a sad countenance. For they disfigure their faces that they may appear to men to be fasting. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. But you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, so that you do not appear to men to be fasting, but to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly. ~Matthew 6:16-18 NKJB

Being part of the crowd is one thing, moving away from the crowd is another thing altogether. Breaking away from the crowd means we face ridicule, harassment and a host of other attacks for being “different”. When the crowd keeps you from your identity, it’s time to move on. When the crowd keeps you from your faith it’s time to move on. When the crowd demands you believe the narrative instead of the living, breathing Word of God, it’s time to find a different approach.

Now it happened on a certain day, as He was teaching, that there were Pharisees and teachers of the law sitting by, who had come out of every town of Galilee, Judea, and Jerusalem. And the power of the Lord was present to heal them. Then behold, men brought on a bed a man who was paralyzed, whom they sought to bring in and lay before Him. And when they could not find how they might bring him in, because of the crowd, they went up on the housetop and let him down with his bed through the tiling into the midst before Jesus.
When He saw their faith, He said to him, “Man, your sins are forgiven you.
And the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying, “Who is this who speaks blasphemies? Who can forgive sins but God alone?” ~Luke 5:17-21 NKJB

The crowd was dictating to the few, but the few would have none of it. The few sought a different route to get to the Source, the Power and the Living Word of God, no longer accepting the narrative being presented by the crowd, the teachers and the leaders. The narrative can not stand-up to the Living Word.

Either the Gospel is the divine Word of God teaching us how to live and how to be a reflection of Him, or it’s nothing more than a historical account of events.
