Crumbs Topple The Cross…

Crumbs Topple The Cross…

Where does the devil live? Most, if not all of us, have grown up with the saying ” the devil is in the details”. Well, when a person is attempting to get their life straight, meet God and set their feet on solid rock what matters during confession? Details…the little things. The “big three” – alcohol, drugs and pornography – are fairly simple to come clean – fairly simple once Step 3 has been fully accepted.

  1. Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him.

If you remember, from the movies or if you’re a practicing Catholic the confessionals are set up in a particular manner – two doors, a wall between the Priest and the sinner with a curtain so the two can speak with one another without seeing one another. This is to allow the people anonymity and to be able to speak freely, openly and honestly. Without this anonymity most people will not own the “big three” which means they will hold on to several of the smaller issues as well. Tell me again where the devil lives?

These little things, “crumbs”, continually hang around occupying space in our “God shaped hole”. Enough crumbs create a portion, a portion can grow into something else and before you know it – well, nothing has changed. The meeting with God has been postponed. The heart is not pure. The confession has fallen short as the crumbs topple the cross.

Paul writes to the Corinthians…

For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written:

“I will destroy the wisdom of the wise,
And bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.” I Corinthians 1:18-19 NKJB

We need confession first. Once we confess, repent and make amends wisdom follows, not the other way round. Love, hope and faith are fulfilled by the cross, we reach the cross by confession and salvation as God’s gift to all humanity.

Either the Gospel is the divine Word of God teaching us how to live and how to be a reflection of Him, or it’s nothing more than a historical account of events.
