Who Is Rich…

Who Is Rich…

Not a subject that is unfamiliar. Some people hear this word, “rich”, and one thing pops in their mind – possessions, material wealth, etc. The good news is there are a number of people that hear this word and other definitions come to mind. We should all be rich in friends, family and community, material possessions come and go, but the rich tapestry of life is filled with events, not things.

The closer we follow the “the first and greatest commandment” the richer we become. The only real problem is not enough people know and understand this simple Truth. As Christians what is our mission in life? To spread the Gospel, the good news.

When our lives are filled with great joy it’s not because we just amassed a new pile of things – a new house, more money, etc.. No, those things create fleeting happiness that melts away like a winters snow in bright sunshine. Joy is that indescribable feeling that God places in our hearts that permeates our entire being and begins to touch others.

Come now, you rich, weep and howl for your miseries that are coming upon you! Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are moth-eaten. Your gold and silver are corroded, and their corrosion will be a witness against you and will eat your flesh like fire. You have heaped up treasure in the last days. Indeed the wages of the laborers who mowed your fields, which you kept back by fraud, cry out; and the cries of the reapers have reached the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth. You have lived on the earth in pleasure and luxury; you have fattened your hearts as in a day of slaughter. You have condemned, you have murdered the just; he does not resist you. ~James 5:1-6 NKJB

Rejoice in the Lord and spread the good news. Let joy sing from your lips and love shine through your heart. Material wealth is poor and riches in heaven are forever.

Either the Gospel is the divine Word of God teaching us how to live and how to be a reflection of Him, or it’s nothing more than a historical account of events.
