Who Among Us Is Rich…

If the TV is on your home for more than a short period on a daily basis you have seen the glorification of “celebrities”, banking class, ruling class and the like. These people in their finest rags, are held up, given a prominent seat at the table and showered with adoration. Why? All of this happens as we walk past the homeless, never notice the homeless child begging for a bite to eat or new pair of shoes. Too busy looking at the screen in our hand. But come Sunday morning…

My brethren, do not hold the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with partiality. For if there should come into your assembly a man with gold rings, in fine apparel, and there should also come in a poor man in filthy clothes, and you pay attention to the one wearing the fine clothes and say to him, “You sit here in a good place,” and say to the poor man, “You stand there,” or, “Sit here at my footstool,” have you not shown partiality among yourselves, and become judges with evil thoughts? ~James 2:1-4 NKJB

The church has become luke warm and this is the main reason it is dying. The traditional church, the church that anyone over the age of 40 attended as a child, is all but gone – disappearing from the landscape to the tune of 100 churches a month. The new luke warm churches are replacing them at a pretty good clip, but is happening within the walls? Are lives being changed, are communities being rescued and placed on solid ground? Are hearts softening or hardening? Are minds opening or closing? Is the path becoming narrower or as wide as the internet?

Listen, my beloved brethren: Has God not chosen the poor of this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which He promised to those who love Him? But you have dishonored the poor man. Do not the rich oppress you and drag you into the courts? Do they not blaspheme that noble name by which you are called? ~James 2:5-7 NKJB

You-do-you, and we will pray that we all reach the conclusion that serves our Father. We pray for strength in these trying times and we pray for wisdom and humility to confess our sins one to another in the presence of Jesus Christ, that we beg forgiveness of our sins and that redemption and mercy be showered on our lives.

Either the Gospel is the divine Word of God teaching us how to live and how to be a reflection of Him, or it’s nothing more than a historical account of events.
