‘What Are You Making’…

‘What Are You Making’…

“Woe to him who strives with his Maker!
Let the potsherd strive with the potsherds of the earth!
Shall the clay say to him who forms it, ‘What are you making?’
Or shall your handiwork say, ‘He has no hands’?
Woe to him who says to his father, ‘What are you begetting?’
Or to the woman, ‘What have you brought forth?’ ” ~Isiah 45:9-10 NKJB

When addiction, sin, is driving the bus there is no other master, there is only the “next time”. For some, like my older brother, the “next time” runs out and the bus comes to a stop. Still others, the vast majority, simply keep riding along from stop to stop to stop. At a certain point in every addicts life the question arises – “what is happening; how do I get off; can I get off of this out-of-control crazy ride?” The realization of what is happening overwhelms the senses, overwhelms the soul and overwhelms life. This is the point of resolution. This is the point at which the bus either stops or we jump off into the unknown. Some of us get pushed off…either way, as long as we get off the bus instead of it coming to an abrupt halt.

Having lost sight of God, our Creator, the pain continues to grow. The longer we are away, the deeper the pain the grows, the more pain-stopper is required to mask the charade that was once our life.

God is our Creator, God is the only One that can pull off the bus – push, jump or otherwise – He is the only one that can pull us from the fire, the wreckage of our current state of affairs. We must recognize this and speak this to Him.

  1. We admitted we were powerless over alcohol (sin) that our lives had become unmanageable.
  2. Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.
  3. Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him.

This is audible, brief, concise (ABC). We tell God, on our knees, we’ve returned.

Given the opportunity we stop asking ourselves, stop asking God – “what are you making?” and simply breathe in His forgiveness, grace and mercy. It’s the only option any of us have, there is no other way, there is no other God that can transform our lives into the greatness that He has already made for us. We simply need to jump from the bus into the unknown.

Thus says the Lord,
The Holy One of Israel, and his Maker:
“Ask Me of things to come concerning My sons;
And concerning the work of My hands, you command Me.
I have made the earth,
And created man on it.
I—My hands—stretched out the heavens,
And all their host I have commanded.
I have raised him up in righteousness,
And I will direct all his ways;
He shall build My city
And let My exiles go free,
Not for price nor reward,”
Says the Lord of hosts. ~Isiah 45:11-13 NKJB

Either the Gospel is divine inspiration, the Word of God teaching us how to live and how to be a reflection of Him, or it’s nothing more than a historical account of events.
