Having It From The Beginning…
God, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit have been with us since the very beginning. Breathing life into our lungs long before we arrived. We should give thanks for this simple blessing every day. We should remind ourselves of our sins, every day, by asking forgiveness of our sins, every day. We are sinners and we can not get around it. We will not awaken one morning to find we are no longer sinners – we will never, ever be perfect. The Son of God is perfect, we are a child of God, we are messy, arrogant and loud.
Brethren, I write no new commandment to you, but an old commandment which you have had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which you heard from the beginning. 1 John 2:7 NKJB
God knew us long before we arrived, long before we needed grace or had need of repentance. It is by His mercy and grace that we have anything. It is by our acknowledgement of His mercy and grace that we are forgiven. Loving God and loving our neighbor is all Jesus ask of us. Not much of a list of demands for such a gift as eternal life with the Father.
Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.” Matthew 22:37-40 NKJB
We had it from the beginning, all we have to do is ask, seek and knock.
