What Shall We Be…

What Shall We Be…

Over the past two weeks there has been an ongoing study of what God, through Jesus Christ, wants us to be. In order to know what He wants us to do to live in the Christ identity, we must first have an understanding of who we are. One can not be fully revealed if there is no identity or if our identity is a false identity. Speaking the truth, at all cost, helps us to reveal that identity.

Matthew 12:35-37 tells us that our words, even if carelessly spoken, reveal the content of our heart. Our words will either speak for us or against us.

A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good things. And an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things. But I say to you that for every idle word that men speak, they will give an account on the Day of Judgment. For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”

As we develop a deeper love and bond with Jesus Christ He demands nothing less than the Truth. The truth is sometimes incredibly ugly and often times extremely uncomfortable. Jesus never ask for an “apology” Jesus never says “Well, you did “X” so, be gone.” No, He ask what makes you do these things, act in that manner and identify as something that you are not?

What can we do that will bring us closer to Jesus Christ? Would it be to know who we are first? Who are we in the eyes of Jesus Christ? Does Jesus ever say you’re a loser, fat, ugly, stupid, unworthy? Does Jesus ever call His children a prostitute, a drug addict, a molester, a thief or a murderer? If Jesus doesn’t call us any of these names it must be the great deceiver – the liar.

If the devil/satan/liar/tempter/enemy/lucifer/fallen angel, or any of the endless identities ascribed to the enemy, attempts to challenge Jesus Christ, and attempts to get Him to nullify His identity as God, wouldn’t it make sense the enemy would do the same to everybody – including us? That’s what the enemy does – steals identities to keep us from God.

Simon became Peter/Petras and Sal became Paul – not of their making but in the eyes of Jesus Christ.

Matthew 4

1 Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness
to be tempted by the devil.
2And when He had fasted forty days
and forty nights, afterward He was hungry. 3 Now when the
tempter came to Him, he said, “If You are the Son of God,
command that these stones become bread.”
4 But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live
by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ”
5 Then the devil took Him up into the holy city, set Him on the
pinnacle of the temple, 6 and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God,
throw Yourself down. For it is written:
He shall give His angels charge over you,’
and,
‘In their hands they shall bear you up,
Lest you dash your foot against a stone.’ ”
7 Jesus said to him, “It is written again,
“You shall not tempt the Lord your God.’ ”
8 Again, the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain,
and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory.
9 And he said to Him, “All these things I will give You if You will fall
down and worship me.”
10 Then Jesus said to him, “Away with you, Satan! For it is written,
You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.’ ”
11 Then the devil left Him, and behold, angels came and
ministered to Him.

Why do we not believe these words? Why do we believe the deceiver is stronger? Why do we allow the greatest tools of the enemy, fear, guilt and shame, to rule our lives?
