What Do You See…

What Do You See…

When you look at the world, what do you see?

Having spent many years living a life of sin and reeking havoc with every step, the world today looks a lot different than a few years past. There was a moment during the twenty-five year reign of terror where the still-small-voice was actually able to break through the noise and make His presence known. It was short lived and once it was drowned out the noise increased, the destruction went exponential and the people surrounding this devastated soul were of no consequence. This is how addiction can destroy lives, destroy families and keep us separated from God.

The original sin of Adam and Eve is not unlike any other sin of today. We put up barriers that separate us from God and the “fig leaf” of addiction serves us just as well as it did Adam and Eve in our attempts to hide from our Father. We are unable to hide anything as He already knows what will happen, when it will happen and why it will happen. It is only our sorry attempts to keep secrets that hurts Him and makes Him sad for us.

We don’t have to live that way. Some of us are simply hard headed, hard-hearted and stone cold on the inside. It is when we finally hit that rock at the bottom of the barrel that we realize maybe, just maybe, we really don’t have to live this way.

If a mere code of morals, or a better philosophy of life were sufficient to overcome alcoholism, many of us would have recovered long ago. But we found that such codes and philosophies did not save us, no matter how much we tried. We could wish to be moral, we could wish to be philosophically comforted, in fact, we could will these things with all our might, but the needed power wasn’t there. Our human resources, as marshaled by the will, were not sufficient; they failed utterly.

Lack of power, that was our dilemma. We had to find a power by which we could live, and it had to be A Power Greater Than Ourselves. Obviously. But where and how were we to find this Power? Source

Isiah 17 NKJV

9 In that day his strong cities will be as a forsaken bough
And an uppermost branch,
Which they left because of the children of Israel;
And there will be desolation.
10 Because you have forgotten the God of your salvation,
And have not been mindful of the Rock of your stronghold,
Therefore you will plant pleasant plants
And set out foreign seedlings;
11 In the day you will make your plant to grow,
And in the morning you will make your seed to flourish;
But the harvest will be a heap of ruins
In the day of grief and desperate sorrow.
12 Woe to the multitude of many people
Who make a noise like the roar of the seas,
And to the rushing of nations
That make a rushing like the rushing of mighty waters!
13 The nations will rush like the rushing of many waters;
But God will rebuke them and they will flee far away,
And be chased like the chaff of the mountains before the wind,
Like a rolling thing before the whirlwind.
14 Then behold, at eventide, trouble!
And before the morning, he is no more.
This is the portion of those who plunder us,
And the lot of those who rob us.
