The Father Who Dwells In Me Does The Works

When first hearing the word “works” it seemed like such an odd way of using a word that all of us use on a regular basis. The original publishing company for the book Alcoholics Anonymous was called The Works Publishing Company. It took a minute to understand why this name was used.

Our Father wants us to be near Him and He wants us to have that desire within. Once the desire reveals itself it is as if a faucet has been turned on and there is no shut off valve. The desire seems to grow and grow. It’s as if He knew this would happen and He simply presented a way for us to find the path that leads us to Him. Most of the time it is through tragic works but on occasion a person can avoid hitting “rock bottom” and see the path laid out before them. It seems those that hit bottom, doing the dirty works of cleansing their soul, have a different relationship with the Father than those that avoid the tragedy. This, for me, is the appeal of  the”leper colony”. Having been in the pit and coming to understand the “fight is over” and the battle won means the works bring us closer to other believers. All of this probably has a lot do with why Paul is so meaningful to my walk.

I love our Father and love what He continually reveals. It is a magnificent journey and I pray that more and more people come to embrace the way, the truth and the life.

John 14 NKJV

7 “If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; and from now on you know Him and have seen Him.”
8 Philip said to Him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is sufficient for us.”
9 Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?
10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on My own authority; but the Father who dwells in Me does the works.
11 Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father in Me, or else believe Me for the sake of the works themselves.
