Once Blind…

Once Blind…

“Amazing grace, how sweet the sound, that saved a wretch like. I once was lost but now am found, was blind but now I see.”

These words have been sung at thousands upon thousands of funerals. These words were part of the vows I wrote, and read, to my wife on our wedding day. There is so much depth in these handful of words that it seems ashamed they should be primarily sung at funerals.

If we believe these words carry the weight people seem to ascribe to them, they should be used in a multitude of ways. These words showed up on the page after a visit in my heart as I sat down to write my vows to the woman I love. It was mercy that saved me…and God’s grace that brought her to me.

I was blind beyond belief just a few short years prior to these events unfolding. Once mercy was granted and grace swept the hollows of my soul I was blind no more…just because a person was once blind, doesn’t mean they have to wait until their body dies to see again. Jesus Christ allows us to see again, today, so long as we are willing to open our eyes.

John 9 NKJV

20 His parents answered them and said, “We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind;
21 but by what means he now sees we do not know, or who opened his eyes we do not know. He is of age; ask him. He will speak for himself.”
22 His parents said these things because they feared the Jews, for the Jews had agreed already that if anyone confessed that He was Christ, he would be put out of the synagogue.
23 Therefore his parents said, “He is of age; ask him.”
24 So they again called the man who was blind, and said to him, “Give God the glory! We know that this Man is a sinner.”
25 He answered and said, “Whether He is a sinner or not I do not know. One thing I know: that though I was blind, now I see.”
