Without Measure

Without Measure

How do we measure the goodness of God? Can it be measured? Is there a yard stick or measuring tape we can unfurl and hold it up to the grace, mercy and wonder that is God? Of course not.

For a number of years arising at or before 4am was the norm. When your J.O.B. (just over broke) requires early hours the alarm clock is adjusted to accommodate. Long before the job required it there was an event that took place in the high desert of Nevada. Lying on the desert floor, some 5,000+ feet in elevation 20+ miles from a paved road, one can see deep into the Milky Way. It has the ability to change lives, which it did. Being up early, before the others in the camp arose allowed for time and space to spend with God. At the time it was unclear the reasoning for getting up 2-3 hours before sunrise, but in hindsight it is as clear as the shooting stars were each morning in the desert. God was calling and there was no choice but to answer.

If you listen to Bill Johnson’s sermon this morning what is being said may be a little clearer, maybe not, but Bill’s description of hosting the presence of the Lord is extremely powerful. The Holy Spirit “is not a lake, but a river” that doesn’t sit still in our lives, but moves through our lives to lift us up, fill us and move into the people around us. As the Holy Spirit works in our lives we can then reflect the teachings of our Lord, Christ Jesus.

Getting back to arising before others, in the quiet of the day, makes space to “host the presence”. Becoming more God centered, but starting the day in the presence of the Lord and inviting the Holy Spirit to fill our lives, our homes and our family changes the whole day. We need to suit up, stand up and allow the Full Armor of God to protect us from the craziness in which we are engulfed. The early bird gets…

II Timothy 3 NJKV

1 But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come:
2 For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
3 unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good,
4 traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,
5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!
6 For of this sort are those who creep into households and make captives of gullible women loaded down with sins, led away by various lusts,
7 always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
8 Now as Jannes and Jambres resisted Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, disapproved concerning the faith;
9 but they will progress no further, for their folly will be manifest to all, as theirs also was.
