Luke 24:1-12 Please open your Bible at Luke 24. We are continuing our one-year journey through the Bible. We come today to the great and central event on which the entire Christian faith rests: the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

I want to attempt two things today. First, I want us to see the evidence for the resurrection and second, to grasp the significance of the resurrection for our lives today.

A. The empty tomb

…at early dawn, they went to the tomb…And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they went in, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus – Luke 24:2-3

‘They went to the tomb.” Who are “they”?

Verse 10 gives us the answer:

Now it was Mary Magdalene and Joanna and Mary the mother of James and the other women with them who told these things to the apostles – Luke 24:10

Mary Magdalene must have had a remarkable story. At one time, her life had been controlled by dark powers. If you had met her at that time you would have seen a woman who was driven by compulsive patterns of behavior that were beyond her own control. But Christ set her free and from that time onwards, she was a devoted follower of Jesus.
