A Difficult Lesson to Learn

A Difficult Lesson to Learn

If we give it all away we are wealthy in more ways than we can imagine. This is a very difficult concept for most people to understand and to accept. I struggle with this on a regular basis especially where it comes to finance. We are to step aside and allow Jesus Christ to take the wheel in ALL our affairs and this includes our finances. We want desperately to hold on and “manage” it ourselves.

When I first got sober in 2002 I was so scared I didn’t know what to expect. I just knew that what my life had been was no longer working and my entire world was a disaster. Less than a year into my sobriety God took the one thing that I continued to hold on to as an identifier – my well paying job.

One day I came home from work and three hours later the owner of the company called me, as I was one of the main people in the organization, and informed me “he had just locked the doors and shuttered the business”. This was a devastating blow, or so I thought, to my life and lifestyle. God would settle for nothing less than absolute “child like” dependence. After fifteen weeks of trying “my way” to find a job I fell to my knees, hands over my head and proclaimed that I knew not what to do and needed God to take the wheel. He did. Two days later I got a great job, with a great company and was back on my feet. God needed me to get to the place of absolute reliance before setting me free.

Mark 10 NKJV

13 Then they brought little children to Him, that He might touch them; but the disciples rebuked those who brought them.
14 But when Jesus saw it, He was greatly displeased and said to them, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God.
15 Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it.
16 And He took them up in His arms, laid His hands on them, and blessed them.
