The Light of the Gospel

The Light of the Gospel

On mission. Am I on mission and spreading the Gospel? This is a question that I struggle with everyday. Am I doing enough to show others what the Good Word looks like?

One of the main reasons I decided to attend the church where we currently in attendance was due to the Associate Pastor explaining to every one this church “is on mission in our city”. He also explained the church was on mission around the world, which it is very involved in lands far, far away, but there would be an emphasis right here where we stand. That hasn’t materialized in more than two years. Today that changes. Today, instead of looking outside at what others are doing I will follow what Christ has said we are to do – spread the Good Word.

When I got sober it was made clear that one of the best ways to stay sober was to work with other drunks. This keeps you in the story, spreading the word, about how God works in our lives. The local rescue mission is filled with people that need help, need a kind word and a lot of them need help getting sober. Why wouldn’t this be fertile ground for the Light of Jesus Christ to be shone? Why wouldn’t you, the person reading these words, visit the local rescue mission and offer to help in some capacity? Be like Jesus, act as-if, and let others see love in action.

Paul describes this perfectly.

II Corinthians 4 NKJV

1 Therefore, since we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we do not lose heart.
2 But we have renounced the hidden things of shame, not walking in craftiness nor handling the word of God deceitfully, but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God.
3 But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing,
4 whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them.
5 For we do not preach ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord, and ourselves your bondservants for Jesus’ sake.
6 For it is the God ho commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
