Eyes of the Heart

Eyes of the Heart

A number of years ago I walked into a church for Sunday service and in the seat laid the days program that included the following passage

18 I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened so that you may know what is the hope of his calling, what is the wealth of his glorious inheritance in the saints,

This is from Ephesians 1 CSB. It hit me in such a way that I actually changed the name of my stained glass studio to Eyes of the Heart Glassworks.

It seems that by the time Paul reaches this point in his ministry the Lord is taking every step, every breath and placing every word on his heart. Paul’s love of Jesus is undeniable and is on display for the whole world to see. Paul was there to see Jesus rise from the dead and is now sharing the Gospel with us today. This one passage from the thousands upon thousands of passage in the Bible changed my entire life. This is what our Lord, Christ Jesus intended for Paul to do. Set out and tell the world the good news. Why would we not want to do the same? Why do we sit, dutifully, in our seat on Sunday and do nothing on Saturday or Monday to share the good news? If we lived for Jesus, as Paul lived for Jesus, the beauty that is this passage would spring forth from our hearts, our mind and our soul in such a way that people would see Jesus in every step taken, every word spoken and every task completed would shine with His glory.

Ephesians 1 CSB

15 This is why, since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints,
16 I never stop giving thanks for you as I remember you in my prayers.
17 I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, would give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him.
18 I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened so that you may know what is the hope of his calling, what is the wealth of his glorious inheritance in the saints,
19 and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the mighty working of his strength.
