Exodus 24:15-18
And Moses went up into the mount, and a cloud covered the mount. 1And the glory of the LORD abode upon mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it six days: and the seventh day he called unto Moses out of the midst of the cloud. And the sight of the glory of the LORD was like devouring fire on the top of the mount in the eyes of the children of Israel. Forty days and Forty nights of meditation fasting and being with the Lord, our God, is a very important ritual in observance and obedience to the Lord.
Is fasting part of it? Verses 15-18 do not mention, specifically, fasting. It states Moses – and only Moses – is with the Lord 40 & 40. No other details about this encounter are given.

What would happen to us if we were to go off alone for forty days and forty nights to commune with God? How would would our lives be impacted? What would happen to everything we do?
Is it possible to do this 40 & 40 while having a job, home life and family? How would that work or would it work at all?
Time with the Lord, alone, is extremely important to our faith, our growth and our sanity. We must find ways to make as much time as possible, alone, with the Lord to hear the Still Small Voice that only comes in the quiet, in the time He appoints. We are responsible for providing that space and time in order to receive what the Lord has to share with us. How else will it ever happen? Morning is the best time, for me, before the world gets going and the noise starts. What ever time works for you please see to it. The Lord is waiting, don’t make Him wait to share the Good News.
