All That You Say To Me I Will Do…
When we walk in the will of the Lord, humble ourselves to serve Him and others we find that our lives are filled with grace and mercy. It begins with humility and, sometimes, humility is born from heartbreak, loss or desperation. Once we find ourselves “at the bottom”, whatever that looks like, we can humble ourselves in front of the Lord, bow down and make ourselves available to His will and set our free will aside. This opens the door wide to grace which can usually be found with mercy.
The story of Ruth paints such a beautiful picture of humility and shows us how important it is for us to walk as a humble servant. Ruth, a young widower, has found favor in the eyes of her widowed mother-in-law, Naomi. As Ruth humbles herself to listen and act upon the instructions from Naomi, Ruth’s life begins to unfold in ways she could have never imagined. This very same thing happens in our life, once we reach a level of humility where we are broken enough to listen and act upon Godly instructions for our life. It is difficult to get someone to listen who is still whole and living what they perceive as “the good life”.
Therefore wash yourself and anoint yourself, put on your best garment and go down to the threshing floor; but do not make yourself known to the man until he has finished eating and drinking. Then it shall be, when he lies down, that you shall notice the place where he lies; and you shall go in, uncover his feet, and lie down; and he will tell you what you should do.”
And she said to her, “All that you say to me I will do.” ~ Ruth 3:3-5 NKJB

How many of us would be willing to listen and act upon such instruction? Lay at someone’s feet as they sleep and when they awaken tell us our fate?
Is this not what Jesus Christ does with our lives? Does Jesus ask us to humble ourselves at the foot of the cross and follow His voice and live in the will of God and not free will? Sounds like the same thing going on.
Ruth does all that she is told to do. Ruth’s life is about change, forever, and she is about receive blessings that could not be imagined. This is how our life manifest when we put aside our free will, listen for God’s instructions for our life and then act upon them.
When a person walks in humility, seeking, asking and knocking – FIRST – then acts upon it, they are making themselves available to God. Life changes in ways previously unknown. Paths begin to open up that were never dreamed of, people come into our lives to make changes in our life that we never thought could possibly happen and we find ourselves in situations we did know existed anywhere in the world. This is the power of humility combined with grace and mercy tied to our actions in God.
Either the Scripture is the divine Word of God teaching us how to live and how to be a reflection of God, or it’s nothing more than a historical account of events.
