Two Nations Are In Thy Womb…

Is there meaning and guidance in all of the Bible? Is there a lesson in every chapter? Should we read the Holy Bible, especially the Torah, Genesis, as a book or as something to teach us about what is coming or how should this vital piece of scripture be approached?

The reading of Genesis is a challenging read to say the least. Genesis, in the King James Bible, can be quiet the challenge to read. The stories are a challenge in themselves and then you add the language of the past and it just becomes a word salad and, at times, a frustrating read. If frustration is “driving the bus” it makes any lesson all the more challenging to reach. However, it makes the lesson all the more rewarding once it reveals itself.

Then the Lord speaks to Rebekah in Genesis 25…

And the LORD said unto her,
Two nations are in thy womb,
And two manner of people shall be separated from thy bowels;
And the one people shall be stronger than the other people;
And the elder shall serve the younger. ~ Genesis 25:23 KJB

When the elder self sacrifices to the younger self the elder is willing to give all, including themselves, to serve the younger. We are our brothers keeper. We are here to serve our brothers, and sisters, in Christ. We are God’s children and He made us as such. Our skills and our lives are of no matter if we are not serving our brothers and sisters in Christ.

And the boys grew: and Esau was a cunning hunter, a man of the field; and Jacob was a plain man, dwelling in tents. ~ Genesis 25:27 KJB

Skills, position in life nor how we fill our days is of any importance if we are not serving the Lord as well as serving the Lord’s children. We can have all the riches known to this world, but be completely bankrupt if we have not love for our brothers and sisters in Christ.

And Jacob sod pottage: and Esau came from the field, and he was faint: and Esau said to Jacob, Feed me, I pray thee, with that same red pottage; for I am faint: therefore was his name called Edom. And Jacob said, Sell me this day thy birthright. And Esau said, Behold, I am at the point to die: and what profit shall this birthright do to me? And Jacob said, Swear to me this day; and he sware unto him: and he sold his birthright unto Jacob. Then Jacob gave Esau bread and pottage of lentiles; and he did eat and drink, and rose up, and went his way: thus Esau despised his birthright. ~ Genesis 25:29-34 KJB

We are made to serve one another, period. God made us to worship Him and serve His children. That is exactly what Jesus Christ teaches us in Matthew 22:36-39 When we do these two things our lives are in a position of harmony with the Kingdom of Heaven. When we are out of balance with God’s “formula” our lives are out of balance in all that we do. Our “birthright” becomes of no value to us. How can our lives have any meaning? This is when sin becomes our only friend. This is when chocolate, gambling, drugs, sex, pornography, work, exercise and the list goes on, this is when these take over our lives and our hearts become hardened.

Go out, today, and commit a random act of brotherhood, sisterhood – not kindness, but something far more meaningful. Make five sandwiches, place each in a sandwich bag, grab five bottles of water. Write out / print out, your favorite Bible verse five times and place in the bag with the sandwich. Hand out to five people you see, you encounter, in this day. Watch what happens next.

Either the Scripture is the divine Word of God teaching us how to live and how to be a reflection of God, or it’s nothing more than a historical account of events.
