I Will Let Down The Net…

Fear not; from henceforth, thou shall catch men. ~ Luke 5:10 KJB

How many times during the course of a day do we shut down God and tell Him why we can’t do something? We are all too happy to list the many, many reasons why we are unable to perform, accomplish or even attempt something that is presented to us. We say things like, “I don’t have…” “the price is…” The resources are…” and the all time classic “I am afraid.” We shut God down before He has a chance to move in our lives. We kick Him to the curb as He is speaking. We discard, out-of-hand, what we hear, what we see.

Is it possible that Jesus Christ knows we are shutting Him down and, therefore, adjust how He approaches us? Maybe sometimes Jesus’ approach is to pull away from us a little, place a barrier between Himself and us to see if we are in fact listening, are we going to act or are we simply “checking a box” on Sunday?

And He entered into one of the ships, which was Simon’s, and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land. And He sat down, and taught the people out of the ship. ~ Luke 5:3 KJB

If a person places a moat around themselves is it possible they may believe you did arrive at the scene for the right reasons? Is it possible they don’t believe your heart is filled with joy and fire for the Gospel?

When we repent, find those items we have buried deep inside, confess them one to another, we are able to hear Jesus’ voice clearly. We are able to respond to His voice and stop putting up barriers, stop saying “no” and relinquish our fear. We can breathe easy and know that He is God and we are His child.

Now when He had left speaking, He said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught. And Simon answering said unto Him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net. ~ Luke 5:4-5 KJB

When we launch into the deep and bring forth our catch we usually need help. As Jesus has spoken before, very clearly, Where two or three are gathered in My name, I am there in their midst. Simon Peter called unto James and John.

As soon as we dive into the deep we find Jesus waiting. As soon as we put down our fear of the future and guilt of the past, we can seek help to empty our net, confess we are sinful and fall at the feet of Jesus we will be filled with His love, His strength and His joy. We will be able to put down our net and follow Him.

Either the Scripture is the divine Word of God teaching us how to live and how to be a reflection of God, or it’s nothing more than a historical account of events.
