Because You Ate Of The Loaves….

Look around and describe what is seen. A roof overhead, food on the table, a family. Is it a little simpler, maybe breath in our lungs and good health. If you are reading this you probably have some type of digital device that allows access to the internet. All of these things and a great many more are because of God. All of our lives belong to Him. We praise Him, very little. We point to God, in the name of Jesus Christ, a time or two during the day – on really good days. Why not all day? Why not multiple times a day? Why not stop in the middle of something and thank God for all that He has done in our lives?

We are consumed with the next thing. We have been trained to chase the next thing – the new all time high on the stock market, the latest technology, follow the latest sports star, download the current song in heavy rotation and the list goes on and on.

The “groupies” that followed Jesus Christ were no different. They were unable to see what Jesus had already done for them and simply wanted what was next.

One of His disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, said to Him, “There is a lad here who has five barley loaves and two small fish, but what are they among so many?”
Then Jesus said, “Make the people sit down.” Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand. And Jesus took the loaves, and when He had given thanks He distributed them to the disciples, and the disciples to those sitting down; and likewise of the fish, as much as they wanted. ~ John 6:8-11 NKJB

Jesus had just fed them physically and Spiritually. But the people were not satisfied. They could not see what had happened and what Jesus had done for them, they could only see the show had stopped and the gifts, likewise, had stopped.

Did they rush to Jesus and ask to be one of the Disciples? Did they rush to Jesus, fall at His feet and give Him praise, honor and glory? Did they even so much as offer a humble “thank you” for the bread and fish?

No, they did nothing of the sort. They followed after Jesus, yes they did, not for the Word of God, the Breath of Life or to be in the presence of the Light of World. No, this was not on their heart nor on their mind. They simply wanted another loaf of bread and another show. Or maybe they just going through the motions of what they were suppose to do because their spouse wanted to go.

And when they found Him on the other side of the sea, they said to Him, “Rabbi, when did You come here?”
Jesus answered them and said, “Most assuredly, I say to you, you seek Me, not because you saw the signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled. ~ John 6:25-26 NKJB

It’s as if they are asking Jesus, “Dude, why didn’t you post your next stop? How are we to know where the next show is going to be if you don’t publish the tour dates?!” How many days do we spend in this posture instead of being humble enough to give praise for a drink of Living Water and the Breath of Life? As we humble ourselves to breath in the Living Word and allow the Word of God to speak clearly to us, why not stop, give thanks and then repeat throughout the day, everyday, for what has already been done? Do we need more than we have? Do we need another show to believe, to love, to give, to share the Gospel…do we need another anything in order to offer praise for Jesus Christ, who sacrificed it all so that we may live?

Either the Scripture is the divine Word of God teaching us how to live and how to be a reflection of God, or it’s nothing more than a historical account of events.
