We Were Powerless…
When we turn away from our life, when we admit our lives are a disaster because we have turned our back on God, this is the point in our lives that is the most significant.
We look around and see nothing but wreckage, fires and carnage making up every aspect of our lives and we have no idea what has happened or how we got here. We hit a wall, we hit rock bottom or whatever makes a person understand what has happened but the fact of the matter is Jesus Christ must touch our heart, open our eyes and clear our mind just enough to comprehend our life is not what we think it is. Our life is not ours. Our life belongs to someone or something else and we have no control over our actions, our words or the people we are spending time with.
1. We admitted we were powerless over alcohol (fill in the blank), that our lives had become unmanageable.

We love helping others and believe that’s one of the reasons we are chosen as Ambassadors of the Kingdom, to serve God’s children. We look to the Greatest Commandment as our Powering force.
We are powerless, we have no power and whatever it is that is running our life, is in fact running our life. This “thing”, this inanimate object is actually telling us what to do, when to do it and who to do it with. If we are, or if we know, an addict – which is nothing more than a person driven by sin – then it is possible to see a life being run by an idol, an inanimate object, a “golden-calf” if you will.
For the past 18 years it was all about Step 3 –Â Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him. That decision was made for us long before we reach this Step. Jesus Christ has already found us and is asking us to lose our life in order to find Him.
He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for My sake will find it. ~ Matthew 10:39 NKJB
It is when we realize that our life is not our own the Light of the Lord begins to shine. Living in darkness prevents us from seeing any Light. How can one see if they are blind? Jesus has to come to us before our eyes can be opened. Our unmanageable lives must be exposed before anything can happen.
But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. ~ Ephesians 2:4-7 NKJB
If we are able to give our lives to an inanimate object – an idol – why can’t we give our whole lives over to Jesus Christ? If TV runs our lives, why not let Jesus Christ tell us what to watch, what to see, what to hear, who to do activities with and where to do activities? What is the difference? Why is it so difficult?
Either the Scripture is the divine Word of God teaching us how to live and how to be a reflection of God, or it’s nothing more than a historical account of events.
