Out of Balance…

Out of Balance…

When a load of clothes in a washing machine gets out of balance the machine shakes and then begins moving out of place. This same thing happens to us when we are out of balance with Jesus Christ, Emmanuel. When we take our eye of Jesus we sink, deny Him and then become completely separated from Him. It is a sickening feeling.

And Peter answered Him and said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.”
So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus. But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!” ~Matthew 14:28-30 NKJB

This is how it happens and it happens that quickly. The moment we take our eye off Jesus we begin to sink. The sinking usually hits a point of quickening and the depths reached have no limit. We can fall as far as we would like. As soon as we cry out, “Lord, save me!” Jesus never falters nor hesitates. It is our responsibility to remain in faith. It is our responsibility to continually draw nearer to Jesus – He will draw nearer to us, however, out of love we should always draw nearer to Him. Let the fear of God be strong in us all so the winds will cease more sooner than later.

And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased. ~Matthew 14:31-32 NKJB

There are two vital words in these verses – “immediately” and “did“. Jesus’ response was immediate, zero hesitation. When asking Peter about his “doubt” it was ask in the past tense, not present or future, but past tense. This seems to indicate that Peter turned around as quickly as Jesus had responded. Peter is no more back in the boat when Jesus sees that the moment has already passed.

When do we accept these Truths in our lives? When do we turn to Jesus Christ with all our faith and never look away? Is that possible? Will the storms always be part of our life and we must always be reconnecting with Jesus? Is that part of how we are to live in our faith – always moving toward a stronger, deeper faith than what we were living before?

Either the Gospel is the divine Word of God teaching us how to live and how to be a reflection of Him, or it’s nothing more than a historical account of events.
