When Absolutes Come Calling…
In 1938 the origins of AA were being formed. Several types of meetings were taking place to help people come to God. AA was never about drinking, getting drunk or alcohol, it was always about sin. It was always about removing sin from our lives in order to develop a deep, meaning relationship with God. A deep, meaningful relationship with God is what is missing in our life when we are attempting to build a new “idol”. That idol comes in an endless array of forms. Work, exercise, gambling, food, sex, chocolate, sports, news and the list goes on and on and on ad infinitum.
How do we find God? How do we tear down the “idols” we have willingly built in our lives in order to get closer to God? We have turned our backs on God and must do our best to towards God to have a rich, fulfilled life. If we don’t we flop around like a fish-out-of-water until we find the mask we believe is comfortable. At the end of the day it is nothing more than a mask.
Absolute honesty.
Now is your chance to support Gospel News Network.
We love helping others and believe that’s one of the reasons we are chosen as Ambassadors of the Kingdom, to serve God’s children. We look to the Greatest Commandment as our Powering force.
It is very necessary to keep that word `Absolute’ in mind. It is like a clear white light searching into all sorts of hidden corners. It makes sure that I shall not overlook the places where I was content with a second best or excused myself for a compromise.
Honesty? Well, that is not too bad. I do not rob the till, or make fraudulent returns to the Inspector of Taxes. (Or do l?) But Absolute Honesty? That looks different. Do I make elaborate excuses over something that I have simply forgotten to do? Do I waste my employer’s time by lateness or slackness? Am I living in the open with my family? Source
If a person announces “let me be honest.” or some derivative of such – look out! Not only is there a chance they have been dishonest with you in the past they most certainly have been dishonest with themselves which means you don’t stand a chance of getting the fully inspected honest truth about the subject at hand.
Until we are honest with ourselves, which in turn means being honest with God and, more importantly, being honest to God, the mask we have put on will continue to be the mask we show the world. We will not be born again a new creature.
If we take the greatest commandment and apply absolute honesty we find the Light. It is impossible to hide in the bright, white Light of Jesus Christ’ love for us.
And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is , Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: and thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these. ~ Mark 12:29-31 KJB
If we believe, and accept, the greatest commandment, then absolute honesty should sit at the head of the table.
Either the Gospel is the divine Word of God teaching us how to live and how to be a reflection of Him, or it’s nothing more than a historical account of events.
