“We Can Not Forget That Beauty”

“We Can Not Forget That Beauty”

Today, in the art world, we see something quiet different than we did, say, 150 years ago. Today we see people destroying great works of art under the guise of “peaceful protest”. We see people “creating” things labeled as “art” that would be better suited for lining a bird cage, or used as kindling. These are glorifying anything, much less glorifying God and His kingdom. This is directly reflected in how people interact, how we see one another and how we speak to one another.

Since 1988 a paint brush, a pen, a bent piece of metal, a broken piece of glass have been tools used to sing to the Lord. In the early days the audience was unknown, it wouldn’t be until December 7, 2002, the day of awakening from my slumber, that it was in fact God all the art work was being created. After awakening and sobering up, all the “tools” listed above became even more important. It was Marc Chagall that introduced the idea of God’s work being intertwined with art. “Great art picks up where nature ends.” While not really a big fan of Chagall’s works his understanding and appreciation of God’s work being done through his hands changed my view dramatically. While you would never hear Mr Chagall say something like that, the quote above seems to strongly suggest the correlation was well understood.

This idea was solidified in the early 1990’s when my mentor and life long friend, Reauxstir, introduced the idea of “food is love” and the importance of putting love into the food being prepared. This is the same idea as painting, sculpting or whatever creative endeavor materializes should be done for the glorification of God.

Art should be beautiful, it should be breathtaking, it should fire every brain cell in a person’s head. Art should awaken a person’s soul and make their heart beat a little faster. Art should bring tears a persons eye and laughter in their heart and above all art should be created to the best of one’s ability.

Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. ~1 Corinthians 10:31 NKJV

And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him. ~Colossians 3:17 NKJV

Either the Gospel is divine inspiration, the Word of God teaching us how to live and how to be a reflection of Him, or it’s nothing more than a historical account of events.
