A Slippery Slope…
The great deceiver is a master of confusion and planting seeds that need to be continually pulled up by the roots. The problem is, the fallen one, creates slippery slopes that we don’t see so we have no idea they exist. In my daily life, for example, it is not uncommon for a seed of “jealousy” to planted that turns out be “gluttony” or the enemies favorite weapon – fear.
When I was just getting sober my sponsor told me over and over there are only two issues we need to confront on a daily basis – ego and fear. Our ego, as he would say, is fueled by low self esteem, so the enemy plants a seed in us that could be masquerading as anything but manifest in our mouth or in our hands as false pride / ego. This has the uncanny ability to morph into fear – fear in the form of guilt of the past or fear of the future.
The guilt of the past thing is a serious issue. This is something most all people have to deal with. If you are human, odds are there is something in your past that you have told yourself, “I will never share this with anyone – I’m taking this to my grave.” I had several issues that fit into this category. I no longer these issues as having shared them, verbally / orally, with God and another human being the weight is now distributed. Steps 4 and 5, done “fearlessly and morally”, is how this happened. There is still one issue that is causing me problems. Once I find the appropriate person to share with, it will be laid at the feet of Jesus Christ as well. It’s the last item in the dungeon of my soul. It is still in there due to fear and guilt. The weight lessens with each passing day that I discuss with God, however, until I share it with another human being, before God, it’s not over. Confession is something we must do, we must do often and we must do honestly, fearlessly and morally to open the flood gates of the Holy Spirit.

Jumping off the slippery slope a number of years ago does not protect me in any way. It merely means that I have seen it, experienced it and usually once I get a good head of steam down hill understand what is happening and have the appropriate companions in the Holy Spirit, God and Jesus Christ, to help get my feet back on solid ground.
Sometimes it takes a day or two to see what has happened, and that’s okay, as long as I get up, hand it all over to Jesus Christ and open my heart to the Holy Spirit and allow them to fill my soul with the Light of Truth.
A couple of days ago I was struggling with one of the most well known parables of all of Christ’s teachings. The eyes of secularism had clouded my view. It was fear of something standing in the way and blocking my vision. Probably this lone issue that needs addressing. I pray all the time for God to remove it, but the enemy always finds a way to reintroduce us. I feel confident the person that will share the weight is close at hand. I pray his pace quickens!
Matthew 25 NKJV
29 ‘For to everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have abundance; but from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken away.
30 And cast the unprofitable servant into the outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’
