Recovery: Born Again Into A New Life

Recovery: Born Again Into A New Life by Randolph Jason for The Recovered Word

The greatest Healer in this world is Jesus Christ. If people are to recover from all kinds of addictions, healed from sex issues of all kinds and realistically face grief, anxiety, eating disorders, TV addiction, gambling addiction and a host of other issues Jesus Christ is the model to use to walk people out of, not only these issues but any situation.

Prior to the book Alcoholics Anonymous being published in 1938, Bill W. and Dr. Doctor learned through personal experience, during the early years of peer supported recovery not everyone wants to hear about Jesus Christ, God or have anything to do with church, religion and, especially, Christianity. Guess what? Nothings changed. In the book Alcoholics Anonymous, the chapter “We Agnostics” was published with language for the specific purpose of giving those who are dealing with life’s traumas ears to hear.

Lack of power, that was our dilemma. We had to find a power by which we could live, and it had to be a Power greater than ourselves. Obviously. But where and how were we to find this Power?

Well, that’s exactly what this book is about. Its main object is to enable you to find a Power greater than yourself which will solve your problem. That means we have written a book which we believe to be spiritual as well as moral. And it means, of course, that we are going to talk about God. Here difficulty arises with agnostics. Many times we talk to a new man and watch his hope rise as we discuss his alcoholic problems and explain our fellowship. But his face falls when we speak of spiritual matters, especially when we mention God, for we have re-opened a subject which our man thought he had neatly evaded or entirely ignored. ~ Alcoholics Anonymous, pg. 45 (emphasis added)

In order to fully understand who we are and what we are in the Kingdom of God, what is happening in our lives as we relate to Jesus Christ it may be important to have an idea of how to discover these invaluable lessons from some of the greatest teachers of all time.

Jesus Christ is the Master, Rabbi, Teacher, Healer and a 1,000 other names. How can we ever learn everything He wanted to teach us? We can’t. What we can do and what we must do is follow His commandments. When we are outside of His will and His commandments we are living in sin. Sin is not the situations, language or any aspect of the physical, sin occurs at the moment we separate from God. All the other stuff is a byproduct of the separation from God. All of it.

It is Christ, Himself, not the Bible, that is the true Word of God. The Bible, read in the right spirit and with the guidance of good teachers, will bring us to Him. We must not use the Bible as some sort of encyclopedia out of which texts can be taken for use as weapons. ~ C.S. Lewis

The overall goal is to teach others how they can introduce people to Christ Jesus without scaring them, harming them or isolating them. When working with people who have overactive trust issues or who are dealing with very deep scars to begin with, having a great plan in place to capture their heart, their imagination and their attention within a few minutes is absolutely vital.

It is an honor to be here with you and as we go on this adventure together the Lord, our God, is going to move in a mighty way in our heart, mind and soul. The Holy Spirit will reveal mysteries to us we didn’t realize we needed!

We will continue this line of thought in the days ahead. If anyone is struggling and needs to talk please send us an email to Info@GospelNewsNetwork.org and we can swap phone numbers and begin a true dialogue. May God bless you and your family.
