Faith – The Still Small Voice of Substance and Evidence

Faith – The Still Small Voice of Substance and Evidence by Randolph Jason for Gospel News Network

When Jesus Christ approached the disciples just before He ascended He ask them to wait for the Holy Ghost to fall upon them.

And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me. For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence. ~ Acts 1:4-5 KJB

What a moment that must’ve been for these men. Here is the King of kings commanding them to wait for the Holy Ghost. Notice Jesus does not give them any more information than is necessary. The full mystery of what is about to take place is upon them.

Not one of these men left Jerusalem. None of these men ask Jesus what He was talking about. No, not one of these men ask for a description of the Holy Ghost or when He would be arriving. The full mystery was to be revealed before them – but only in their waiting. Listening and watching upon the Lord’s promise to be fulfilled. How long would it take?

What About Today

Is there anyone among us that could do this today? Don’t we want the answers right now? Send me a text, email or better yet, publish it on social media.

Where have our patience run off too? What has become of our faith? Doesn’t Hebrews 11:1 describe perfectly what Jesus Christ has ask the disciples to do?

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. ~ Hebrews 11:1 KJB

Would Jesus Christ allow us to go where He is going if we always demand to immediately know the answers to every question we ask? Most of us question our faith from time to time, even though it is a total waste of time. If we find the patience, seek first His Word and act upon what is revealed our days will be more fulfilling. Usually the revelations are not the size of the Book of Revelations, but more like a still small voice attempting to get our attention.

And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power. But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. ~ Acts 1:7-8 KJB

We have the time to wait, so long as we don’t listen to the world. Our faith is strong enough, so long as we listen to God and then act. We have all the resources necessary, however, they may need rebalancing. The sad part is the lies we hear are so much easier to believe and accept. In our rush to know, to arrive and to achieve we seem to push past the mystery. We leave, in the dust, the surprise that Jesus Christ has planned for us since the foundation of the world. Brother, sister, can you spare a minute?
