Would You Rather Have Attended America’s Public Schools In 1968 Or America’s Public Schools Today?

Would You Rather Have Attended America’s Public Schools In 1968 Or America’s Public Schools Today? by  for End of the American Dream

Everybody pretty much agrees that public education in the United States is in a really bad place right now.  Test scores are falling, graduation rates in many of our largest cities are depressingly low, and there is way, way too much violence in our schools.  But in order to understand just how far we have fallen, we need to go back and look at videos of what conditions were like in our classrooms before everything started falling apart.  For example, the following video contains footage from a high school classroom in Charlottesville, Virginia in 1968…

The first thing that I want to point out about that video is the teacher.

He has a suit and tie on, and he is well groomed.

When was the last time that you saw a teacher in any of our public schools with a suit and tie on?

Another thing that struck me is that he didn’t have to struggle to control his class.  He respected his students, and they respected him.  This sort of mutual respect is almost entirely absent from our classrooms at this point.  Today, a large percentage of our high school students have the emotional maturity of toddlers, and a lot of that has to do with the way that they were raised.

As I watched the video above, I was amazed at how coherently the students in the video could answer the questions that the teacher was asking.  These young students were bright, articulate and it is obvious that many of them were well prepared for a college environment.

So why can’t our system of public education be like this today?

Over the decades, millions upon millions of normal people have left the public school system behind.  Private schools have popped up all over the country, and more Americans are homeschooling their children than ever before.

As a result, crazed leftists often dominate our public schools, and this is particularly true in heavily blue states and heavily blue cities.

So if you put your kid into a public high school today, that child may end up with teachers like this one

Of course a lot of the students are crazed leftists as well.

Could you imagine this radical leftist becoming “lunch buddies” with your kid?…
