Times Or Epochs Which The Father Has Fixed…
As we go through our day we really are unsure of how the events in that day will unfold. Yes, we have plans, we have our day-planner and look forward to things to come. The question is…are we short changing ourselves by doing this? Are we cheating the Holy Spirit of an interaction with us?
Should we make plans at all or should we be completely open to what we are told during quiet time? Should we review the Word, pray over the Word and listen to what the Word speaks into us? Is that what Jesus means when He tells us
He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or epochs which the Father has fixed by His own authority; but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.” ~ Acts 1:7-8 NASB95

We love helping others and believe that’s one of the reasons we are chosen as Ambassadors of the Kingdom, to serve God’s children. We look to the Greatest Commandment as our Powering force.
Is Jesus speaking of a moment or is He speaking of a epoch – a larger time frame? Jesus actually mentions both which seems to suggest that maybe we are not to know what our day will be like any more than we are suppose to know what tomorrow, next week, next month or next year will bring. How do we, in this so-called “modern” era account for something like not having a plan for our day, our week, our month or our year? I dare say that if a person showed up to their job and explained they were waiting to hear from the Holy Spirit what their next step should be, well…how does one believe this would go over? “Yeah, I’m waiting to hear from the Holy Spirit whats coming next.”
This is a question that we have been asking for so time. Do we, as Simon and Andrew did, simply lay down our nets and follow?
And Jesus said unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men. And straightway they forsook their nets, and followed him. ~ Mark 1:17-18 KJB
These men, literally, dropped what they were doing and followed Jesus Christ for the remainder of their days – without hesitation, without checking their day-planner, without permission from their family. Is this how it’s done?
We have no idea of what tomorrow brings and we, most certainly, have enough to occupy us in this day to keep us from fretting about tomorrow. Why is it such a difficult task to remain in today, to remain in the moment we are living at this moment?
But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you? You of little faith! Do not worry then, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear for clothing?’ For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
“So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. ~ Matthew 6:30-34 NASB95
Do we believe this or is it just words on page? Do we own these Words from God? Are we the Gentiles eagerly seeking these things that are 100% meaningless instead of seeking first the Kingdom of God?
Either the Scripture is the divine Word of God teaching us how to live and how to be a reflection of God, or it’s nothing more than a historical account of events.
