Sown In Peace…

Sown In Peace…

The phrase – “cussing like a sailor” has been around a while. Not sure why sailors were singled out because if one has been in a honky-tonk, a bar / tavern or professional sporting event it’s pretty obvious there isn’t any sea going vessel around, but there is plenty of colorful language filling the air. Not just colorful, but self pride shouting from the highest barstool or the lowliest booth. Pride begins driving ship.

When sin springs forth it infiltrates the mind and begins to spread throughout the body, infecting all members. The tongue, being so close to the brain, can be afflicted in the early stages of rot spreading around. The tongue can also catch an outsized dose of the spreading rot. We are challenged with taming the untamable.

Indeed, we put bits in horses’ mouths that they may obey us, and we turn their whole body. Look also at ships: although they are so large and are driven by fierce winds, they are turned by a very small rudder wherever the pilot desires. Even so the tongue is a little member and boast great things.
See how great a forest a little fire kindles! ~James 3:3-5 NKJB

Once sin takes over the tongue can take us places we have never visited, it can lash out at our family, our brothers, our sisters there can be no shelter from the fury of an unbridled tongue. The glorious images painted using this smallest member of the body can turn into a out-of-control gatling gun created by one loose thought that slips from the brain into the mind, passing through the heart and straight out of the depths of hell that lies just below the nose.

And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set among our members that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by hell. For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and creature of the sea, is tamed and has been tamed by mankind. But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. ~James 3:6-8 NKJB

At the moment we recognize the door of sin has been opened if we call upon Jesus Christ the beautiful images will continue to be painted, sin will be eviscerated, at least for the moment, and we can avoid the ravages caused by the untamable tongue.

For where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there. But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy. Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace. ~James 3:16-18 NKJB

Either the Gospel is the divine Word of God teaching us how to live and how to be a reflection of Him, or it’s nothing more than a historical account of events.
