Doing and Paying…

Doing and Paying…

When a person comes to realize there is but one hope in this world and that hope has a name, Jesus Christ, and the decision is made to turn their will and their life over to the care of God, as they understand God, there is no amount of money that can purchase this reality. It either is or it isn’t.

When someone is looking to get sober and attends an AA meeting most people have no idea what to expect, what it’s about or what’s about to happen to them. They either except it or they don’t. It’s up to the individual. We can either except Jesus Christ or turn our back on Him – Jesus doesn’t turn His back on us, we do that.

1. We admitted we were powerless over alcohol, that our lives had become unmanageable.
2. Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.
3. Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him.

Humility is not sold at the local variety store or any other store. It is not for sale at the local Christian church or any Christian church. Humility is paid for on our knees, no other price is acceptable.

This idea, this reality, is driven home in the Book of Acts. There is only one price we can pay that will open the door that has our hearts encaged and our minds under the management of the enemy himself. The price is repentance.

And when Simon saw that through the laying on of the apostles’ hands the Holy Spirit was given, he offered them money, saying, “Give me this power also, that anyone on whom I lay hands may receive the Holy Spirit.”

But Peter said to him, “Your money perish with you, because you thought that the gift of God could be purchased with money! You have neither part nor portion in this matter, for your heart is not right in the sight of God. Repent therefore of this your wickedness, and pray God if perhaps the thought of your heart may be forgiven you. For I see that you are poisoned by bitterness and bound by iniquity.” ~Acts 8:18-23 NKJV

It is a bitter heart and a wicked mind that keeps us from God and destroys any opportunity of a relationship with Jesus Christ. Until these two are addressed, by “making a decision” there is little chance a person will be able humble themselves to repent. That’s what can be seen in the rooms of AA every. single. day.

Either the Gospel is divine inspiration, the Word of God teaching us how to live and how to be a reflection of Him, or it’s nothing more than a historical account of events.
