Addressing The Question of Abortion by Randolph Jason for Gospel News Network
Being new to curating Gospel News Network it’s easy to find old articles that are new to us. We posted an article from The Federalist where Pastor Carl Lentz was running cover for abortion. A few days later he walked back his comments. His original comments that were presented in a scathing article written By James Silberman can be found here. Needless to say, with all the news surrounding infanticide, abortion and God, this article really captured our attention.
“I do believe abortion is sinful,” Lentz wrote. “Our prayer is that we can continue to help and love those that deal with the pain of regret from personal choices, rather than cast further shame and guilt on those already carrying so much and create a church that can teach people how to form convictions based on God’s word, that will be the driving force in all their decisions. While we are grateful that Pastor Lentz walked back his comments, we would have rather seen him take a stronger, while being compassionate, stance at the beginning. There is only one truth and, from our perspective, he failed to represent that singular truth.
Now is your chance to support Gospel News Network.
We love helping others and believe that’s one of the reasons we are chosen as Ambassadors of the Kingdom, to serve God’s children. We look to the Greatest Commandment as our Powering force.
After a lengthy conversation with a member of my church about this subject I understand it is delicate when talking to an audience of primarily non-believers. The question I have is how is truth suppose to be defended – with flowers, a sword or something in-between? We are discussing the one and only truth, not some shade of truth or secondary truth; no… The Truth.
Back in January it seems that Pastor Lentz may have seen the light and has reached a different conclusion, especially about late term abortion and infanticide.
Lentz shared an old photo to Instagram of him and his three children, Ava, Roman, and Charlie, writing, “I found this old photo recently, and I remember it taking me years to process that these LITTLE PEOPLE, had come into our world!”
“A miracle, without a doubt,” he added.
The Hillsong pastor went on to explain his reason to post the photo.
“And I’m saddened and angry that we are now a state that has made it legal to have an abortion even into the last day of a pregnancy,” he wrote. “I spent hours talking to lawyers and people who hold opposing views on this issue. Although it is layered and there is language in it that some are claiming will protect mothers in peril, the only way I can describe where we are and where this is all headed..is evil, shameful and demonic. I don’t use those words lightly, but they are applicable here.” Source
I would like to introduce Pastor Lentz, and anyone else willing to listen, to Mother Teresa. If there is any confusion for believers or non-believers about abortion and how to present the evil that it represents I would refer them to the address Mother Teresa delivered in 1994 to National Prayer Breakfast with President Bill Clinton and his trusted partner in crime, hillary, seated next to the podium.
This is a very, very small piece of an address that has and will continue to change lives. It speaks directly to the problem of walking back a comment that should have never, ever been made. If Pastor Lentz had simply known about or read this speech delivered so many years ago he would have had the words to share with non-believers. The address by Mother Teresa, which we believe was spoken by God through her, is one that everyone should hear.
And God loved the world so much that He gave His Son – it was a giving. God gave His Son to the Virgin Mary, and what did she do with Him? As soon as Jesus came into Mary’s life, immediately she went in haste to give that good news. And as she came into the house of her cousin, Elizabeth, Scripture tells us that the unborn child – the child in the womb of Elizabeth – leapt with joy. While still in the womb of Mary, Jesus brought peace to John the Baptist who leapt for joy in the womb of Elizabeth.
The unborn were the first ones to proclaim the coming of Christ.

But I feel that the greatest destroyer of peace today is abortion, because it is a war against the child, a direct killing of the innocent child, murder by the mother herself.
And if we accept that a mother can kill even her own child, how can we tell other people not to kill one another? How do we persuade a woman not to have an abortion? As always, we must persuade her with love and we remind ourselves that love means to be willing to give until it hurts. Jesus gave even His life to love us. So, the mother who is thinking of abortion, should be helped to love, that is, to give until it hurts her plans, or her free time, to respect the life of her child. The father of that child, whoever he is, must also give until it hurts.
By abortion, the mother does not learn to love, but kills even her own child to solve her problems. Source
There is nothing more that I can add.
