The U.S. Senate has voted to confirm Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court. The vote was 52-48, with Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) the only Republican to vote “no,” along with every Democrat.
Minutes after the vote, the progressive House members known collectively as “the squad” tweeted their outrage – and their support for an expansion of the Supreme Court.

“Expand the court,” tweeted Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.).
“Republicans do this because they don’t believe Dems have the stones to play hardball like they do. And for a long time they’ve been correct,” she said. “But do not let them bully the public into thinking their bulldozing is normal but a response isn’t. There is a legal process for expansion.”
“Expand the court,” agreed Rep. Ilhan Omar (D- Minn.).
“The Senate GOP rammed through an extremist Supreme Court justice in a sham process as a final abuse of power before Election Day. We can’t let them get away with their corruption and hypocrisy any longer. Let’s mobilize like hell these last 8 days to end their destructive reign.”
From Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D- Mich.) came a similar message: “We are going to take back the White House & Senate next week with a resounding mandate from the people to fight back against Trump’s illegitimately stacked judiciary. We must expand the Court if we’re serious about the transformational change the people are crying out for.”
